I am doing a history of the folks buried in the RHODES, COBB, COX
Cemetery located
on the Freeman COX farm near Vicars Ridge and Harmony, WV .... Miles H.
RHODES is buried there .... Trying to locate Kenneth COBB, who recently
spread the ashes of his parents there .... Would like to know his
parents' names and how he is related to RHODES
I am researching the family of my grandfather, Clarence Cecil JACK,
born in Roane County, WV on 13 Jul 1896 .... He was the only child of
Lorenzo Dow JACK and
Susan Luverna GREATHOUSE LONGFELLOW JACK .... Susan first married Stacy
C. LONGFELLOW and had 2 sons, Fred L. and Edward C. .... Susan died
before my grandfather Clarence was a year old and Lorenzo moved to
Huntington, WV .... Later, Eddie came to Huntington, married, raised a
family, and was close to Clarence .... Freddie stayed in Roane County
but I have childhood memories of him and his wife Stella visiting us
until 1950 when grandfather Clarence died .... After my mother's recent
death I found a picture of her and Ores LONGFELLOW .... I would like to
get in touch with any member of this family
Andrew Jackson PICKERELL and Susan Elizabeth SIMS married in Roane
County
on 09 Mar 1873 .... Andrew was son of Levi "Stephen" PICKERELL,
Jr and Mariah RADER .... Levi Jr was son of Levi "Stephen"
PICKERELL, SR and Rosanna HITT, who married 12 Jan 1809 in Fauquier Co.,
VA .... I don't have any birth or death dates on any of these PICKERELL/PICKRELL
names - can anyone help? .... (Susan Elizabeth SIMS was born 13 Nov 1853
in Jackson County to Martin W SIMS and Susannah WAGGONER) .... Any help
would be appreciated.

line in Roane, Doddridge, and Harrison counties .... Also researching
ROWH (and other spellings) in Roane and Barbour counties
Would like any information regarding the ancestors and descendants of
Moses Van Everett VANHORN (1872-1950) and Sophia Camden ROWH (1878-1922)
of Roane County .... Was Moses born in Doddridge County? Was Sophia born
in Roane?
My grandparents were Samuel Lewis NOE (bn 13 Jan 1895) and Dorothy
Alice MCKOWN, both of Clendenin .... Samuel was a son of William NOE and
Elizabeth ANDERSON NOE .... Samuel and Dorothy had 3 children; Donald,
Ella Marie, and Cloe Virginia .... Can anyone help me get further back?
My great-great grandfather's name was Pleasant PARKER, bn 11 Mar 1824,
in VA. He married Sarah JONES (bn 05 Sep 1828) .... He may have been
orphaned, he was raised in Hawkins County, TN and moved to Washington
Co., AR in 1857 .... If anyone has info on him, please contact me, I
will greatly appreciate it ....
I'm trying to locate an obituary or death information for Rezin CAIN
who died in Spencer, WV on 18 Apr 1886 .... His name could be spelled
Reason/Reece, etc .... If you have suggestions or need further info,

Looking for information on the family of Mary Elizabeth (Bette)
BATTEN, born
28 Jun 1902 in Roane County, WV .... her parents were Richard BATTEN and
Mary Isabelle BOARD BATTEN .... "Aunt Bette" first married a
GIBB, with whom she had at least two children, Richard and Lula Belle
.... She later married a JARRETT .... It is known that Lula Belle was in
the Charleston, WV area during the 1940's .... My father will soon be 82
and would love to know what happened to this branch of the family. Any
information would be appreciated!
I have a copy of a photo that was taken in front of the "LAW'S
Store" in Roane County. There are several men and a couple of boys
standing in front of it .... One of the men is my ggg-grandfather,
Thomas D. GOUGH .... I would like to learn about this store, where it
was located, who the proprietor was, etc., and what year it was taken
.... Am willing to send a copy to anyone who would like to see it
My grandparents were Miles Herbert RHODES (bn 10 Oct 1855 - died 02
Apr 1950)
and Melissa COBB RHODES (1872-1956) who lived at Higby, WV in Roane
County. Miles taught school, preached in the Vicars Ridge Methodist
Church, and farmed. Melissa was postmistress at Higby .... Miles was a
son of John RHODES (bn Jan 1827) and Elizabeth RHODES (bn 19 Jun 1849)
.... We are interested in the cemetery located between Harmony and
Vicars Ridge across the road from the Vicars Ridge Church .... It is in
disarray and has been uncared for for many years, tombstones are down,
etc. .... A small group of us are trying to fix it up and place
headstones where there are none now .... A MOORE family is buried there
- all died of typhoid fever ca 1905. We would love to know their names
.... Others buried there are TOLLEY, COBB, COX, and LITTON families ....

Looking for the family of my grandfather, James Robert SMITH, who was
born in 1881 in Roane Co., WV .... He left home and met my grandmother
in Sacramento, CA and married her after he mustered out of the National
Guard in California in 1917 or 1918 .... They had 5 children .... James
had a brother but he wouldn't talk about his family in Roane County.

Does anyone know where "Two Run Church Cemetery" is located?
It is supposed to be near Reedy .... My husband's great-great
grandparents, James A. STRAIGHT and Sarah NEELEY STRAIGHT, are said to
be buried there .... We are making a trip to WV in September and would
like to locate their graves .... Both death dates are circa 1904-05.
Query of July 14 concerning the Rhodes Cemetery - Buried in one row of
this cemetery are the Frank and Ella TOLLEY COBB family and Henderson
TOLLEY ....
