Looking for information on the family of my grandmother Lydia E. Bird. She married my grandfather Wesley C. Marks Oct.25,1903 and lived in Gandeeville,Roane Co. Lydia was born in 1884 and died June 08,1914. Her father was Edmund (Ned) Bird and some of her siblings were Westa,Joseph, Ernest and Hansford. Lydia died when my father was very small and I have almost no information on the Bird side of my family. Would appreciate any info. Thank you.

Sue,
My Grandfather Howard Riley had a sister Ota who married Hansford Bird. I remember she always called him "Hank". I knew Uncle Hansford well. I remember one time that Hansford, Ota, and my grandparents came to visit us. He was driving his old Willys Jeep wagon. I decided to ride home with them and visit my grandparents for awhile. On the way there, Uncle Hansford's Jeep had a flat. Hansford pulled into a service station, the attendant came out and asked if there was something he could do. Hansford replied, 'I have a flat tire, but it's only flat on one side.' I thought the attendant was going to die laughing. Uncle Hansford didn't understand what the joke was. It only made him mad. So, he jumped back in to the Jeep and pulled down the street to the next station. I will never forget Uncle Hansford's facial expression at that moment. He was so mad he could not speak. That is just one of the many wonderful memories I have of him. Email me and maybe I can dig into the Bird family for you on one of my frequent trips to Roane County.
