1889

Jan 5. Church met and after sermon by the pastor proceeded to business.
Sister Clara Epling reported $.50 subscribed on Pastor's salary.
On motion, Rev. L. D. Starkey was granted a letter of dismission and recommendation. Treasurer reported nothing. On motion adjourned.

Feb. 2. The Church met and after sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. On motion J. V. Bartlett was elected clerk protem. The minutes were read and approved. Bro. Mace committee to see after title of church property reported lot title genuine and committee discharged. On motion the Mod. appointed Bro. C. Tyson and T. H. Springston and J. V. Bartlett Building Com. On motion Sisters Sophie Morford and Clara Springston were appointed a committee to solicit funds to build a new church.
Treasurer reported 21.45 cts. On pastor's salary.
On motion Isabella Marks received to ordnance of Baptism.

Mar. 2. Church met and after sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business.
Report of committees being called for, Sister Sophie Morford reported $71.00 and Sister Clara Springston reported $40.00 subscribed on building a new church.
Treasurer reported $5.00 on Pastor's salary.
Sexton reported 25 cts. Paid

April 6. Church met and after sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. Sister Clara Springston reported $8.00 and Sister Morford reported $14.00 on building a new church. Treasure reported $6.20 for Pastor's salary. Sexton reported nothing. Sister Lizzie Newlon and Bro. G. W. Greathouse were received for baptism.

May 4. He Church met and after Sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. Report of Committees called for. Sister Sophie Morford reported $31.00 and $85.00 of previous reports making $116.00 of her entire report and Sister Springston reported $47.00 for this month and $48.00 of previous report making 95.00 for her subscription on building a new church. Total subscriptions $211.00. Building committee reported plan and specification of church and said plan was adopted.
On motion Bro. T. H. Springston, one of the committee, was instructed to advertise for bids for building said church. On motion the Church proceeded to elect a Deacon and the vote for Bro. J. D. Springston was made unanimous. And on motion the Clerk was ordered to invite Ministers and Deacons of sister churches to be present at the next regular meeting and assist in ordaining the same. Treasurer reported $2.53 on Pastor's salary. Sexton reported $.45 cts.
On motion adjourned.

Sunday May 5th Brethern W. T. Springston, G. W. Greathouse, Daniel Bower, Okey Bower and Sisters Bertha Springston, Ruth Hanger, Fannie Hanger, Nellie Riddle, Ida Mace, Kitty Parsons and Salina Brannon were received into the fellowship of the church.

June 1. Church met and after Sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. Reports of Committees called for. Bro. T. H. Springston reported but only reported some bids received. On motion the Building committee is instructed to contract as soon as it accepts the bid of any one bidding on the church and report at the next meeting. Sexton reported $2.40 cts. Paid on this years salary of Sexton. Sister Clara Springston having moved out of the bounds of the Church, Bro. C. C. Riddle was added to the committee on Church subscription.

Sunday June 2. Bro. J. D. Springston was ordained as Deacon of this Church. Sisters Lizzie Newlon, Ella Epling, Nannie Walker and Ella Walker were baptized and received into the fellowship of the church.

July 6. Church met and after sermon by the Pastor, proceeded to business. On motion Jeff Springston was elected clerk protem. Report of committee called for: Brother T. H. Springston of the Building committee reported they had done nothing. Sister Sophia Morford reported $132.00 for her entire subscription on the church. Treasurer reported $41.03 on Pastor's salary for present year. Sexton reported nothing.

Aug. 3. Church met and after sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. Report of committees called for. No report. On motion Bro. Samuel Harbert and wife was granted a letter of dismission and recommendation. On motion Robert Hildreth and wife, and Marshal Hildreth were excluded from the fellowship of this church. On motion, C. F. West, C. C. Riddle and W. T. Springston were appointed delegates to the Association. On motion the Clerk is ordered to prepare a letter. On motion, Bro. Martin Mace was appointed to collect money to pay for minutes. Treasurer reported nothing. Sexton reported nothing. On motion adjourned.

Church met on Saturday August 31, and after sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. Report of committees called for no report. Treasurer reported $4.50 cts.
On motion the reading of the church letter was deferred until Sunday Sept. the first. On motion the Church proceeded to call a pastor and the vote for J. M. Wood was unanimous. The call was accepted. On motion, Bro. J. D. Springston and Sister Lizzie Newlon were appointed to solicit subscription on pastor's salary for the present year. On motion adjourned.

Church met on Saturday, October 5 and after sermon by the pastor proceeded to business. Sister Lizzie Newlon reported $13.95 on pastor's salary. Delegates of Association reported.

Church met on November 2, 1889, and after sermon by Bro. Stump proceeded to business. On motion, Bro. Stump was elected Moderator. On motion Jeff Springston was elected Secretary for the day and read the minutes of previous meeting or what there was of them. Report of committees called for. Jeff Springston reported $19.00 subscribed on pastor's salary. Building committee reported that the church was in debt to the workmen for work done on the church. Jeff Springston was appointed soliciting committee for the purpose of raising money to pay for building our church. On motion, Bro. W. L. Starkey was discharged as clerk, and Jeff Springston elected in his place. Treasurer reported $5.00 paid on Pastor's salary, and $46.50 paid on building the church. On motion adjourned to meet Saturday before the first Sunday in Dec.

Church met December 1, 1889, and after sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Report of committees called for. Jeff Springston reported $5.50 subscribed on pastor's salary since his last report making a total of $24.50, and $2.00 subscribed on the church. Sister Clara Bartlett reported $5.00 collected that was subscribed to the church. Treasurer reported $4.25 paid on pastor's salary since last month, making a total of $9.25, and $11.50 on the church making a total of $58.00. Sexton reported $1.40 due him which was paid. On motion the rules of order were suspended to attend to business previously forgotten. On motion, the name of our church was changed from LITTLE CREEK to TRIPLETT. On motion, the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the first Sunday in January.

The church met January 4, 1890, and after being led to prayer by bro. J. V. Bartlett and bro. James Walker proceeded to business. On motion, bro. C. Tyson was elected Moderator. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Report of committees were called for. Sister Lizzie Newlon reported $10. Subscribed on pastor's salary since her last report. $10 + $13.95 = $23.95 + $24.50 = $48.45, the total amount subscribed on the pastor's salary for the present year. Jeff Springston reported nothing. Treasurer reported $5.00 on pastor's salary + 9.25 = $14.25 paid on present year, and $11.75 on the church + $58.00 = $69.75 paid on the church. On motion, the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the first Sunday in February.

The Church met February 1, 1890, and after sermon by the Pastor, proceeded to business. Report of committees called for, but they reported nothing. On motion, brother Thomas Marks was elected soliciting committee to secure money for the building of our church. On motion, Jeff Springston was appointed to collect money that has been subscribed on the church. On motion, brother J. M. Wood was released from the pastorate of our church. Treasurer reported $5.30 paid on the church + 69.75 = 75.05, and nothing on pastor's salary since last month. Sexton reported 10 cts. Paid on his salary. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the first Sunday in March.

Resolution of Respect

Resolved That: as Brother Wood has been appointed Missionary to Logan C. H. by the State Mission Board, we extend to him our thanks for the faithful and efficient manner with which he has served for nearly six years.


The church met March 1, 1890 and after sermon by bro. Jiles Burdett proceeded to business. On motion bro. Burdett was elected moderator. Minutes of previous meeting were read. Report of committees was called for, bro. Thomas Marks reported $5.00 subscribed and collected on the building of our church. Treasurer reported $29.06 paid on the church + 75.05 = $104.11 and Pastor $6.75 + 14.25 = 21.00 paid for the present year. On motion the church proceeded to to call a pastor. The first ballot stood 17 for Rev. John Stump, 13 for Rev. Dan Conley and 10 for Rev. Jonathan Smith. Smith being dropped the second ballot stood 21 for Stump and 13 for Conley, after which Stump was elected Pastor by unanimous vote of the church. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the first Sunday in April.

The Church met on April 5, 1890, and after reading a Chapter from the Bible and two prayers being offered, proceeded to business. On motion, bro. J. V. Bartlett was elected moderator. Minutes of previous meeting were read. Report of committees was called for. Sister Lizzie Newlon reported $27.70 subscribed for pastor's salary + 24.50 = $52.20 the whole amount subscribed for brother J. M. Wood, of which $21.00 was paid. Committee was discharged. Sisters Lizzie Newlon and Martha Springston was appointed to solicit subscriptions for the purpose of seeing how much could be raised for bro. John Stump. Treasurer reported $125.75 the total amount paid on our church. Sexton reported nothing since last month. On motion the church adjourned to meeting on Saturday before the first Sunday in May.

Called meeting of April 13, 1890 On motion bro. T. H. Springston was elected moderator. Report of committees was called for. Sister Lizzie Newlon reported $24.75 and Martha Springston $41.75 + 24.75 = $65.50. On motion the church pledged herself to pay bro. John Stump $75 for a years service. On motion the time of meeting was changed until Saturday before the second Sunday in each month. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the second Sunday in May.

The church met May 11, 1890, and after sermon by the pastor proceeded to business. Reports of committees were called for. Sister Martha Springston reported $4.00 on pastor's salary + $65.00 = $69.50. On motion the soliciting committee on Pastor's salary was continued. On motion brother and sister William Starkey were granted letters of dismission and recommendation from this church to any other sister church of like faith and order. On motion the church sends her pastor and two of her members, Joseph Corder and Jeff Springston, to sit in council at Mt. Olive on Saturday before the first Sunday in June at 2 O'clock. On motion the second in June was the time set for the dedication of our church and brother John Stump, Sr. was invited to preach the dedication sermon. On motion the church suspended the service Sunday through respect for sister Radabaugh whose funeral was preached on the same hour. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the second Sunday in June.

The church met June 8, 1890, and after sermon by the Pastor, proceeded to business. The minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Report of committees called for. The Treasurer reported $17.15 paid on Pastor's salary for the present year. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the second Sunday in July.

The church met July 12, 1890, and brother William Newlon preached a very interesting sermon. The business of the church was not transacted as there was not enough male members present to constitute a quorum On motion, the church adjourned to meet on the 13 of July at 10 AM
The church met according to adjournment, and after prayer, proceeded to business. The minutes of previous meeting were red and approved. Report of committees were called for. Treasurer reported $_____paid on the church and $15 to be raised before the church could be dedicated, also $6.25 paid on Pastor's salary + $17.15. On motion the Treasurer was instructed to pay bro. Newlon $10. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the second Sunday in August.

The church met August 9, 1890, the moderator not being present, on motion brother A. McCoy was made Mod. the Clerk also being absent, J. V. Bartlett was elected Clerk protem.
Minutes were read and approved. On motion bro. Brown Burgess was granted a letter of recommendation to unite with a church of like faith and order. Brethern A. McCoy, C. F. West, & Jeff Springston were appointed delegates to the Association. On motion, George Greathouse was excluded from the fellowship of the church having united with the M. E. Church (South). The Treasurer reported $427.31 collected on the building fund.
Paid G. T. West $395.53 the amount due him.

Collected and paid for Pastor in this year's salary $25.00.
The Treasurer was directed to furnish the church with a stand, 2 chairs, pitcher and tumblers.

The church met September 13, 1890 and after sermon by Pastor proceeded to business. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Treasurer reported $4.50 on Pastor's salary. Missions 1.50, Stand 2 chairs, pitcher and tumblers $2.00. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the second Sunday in October.

Sunday, September 14, 1890, there was a collection taken for Mission & the printing of Minutes of the Association. The collection amounted to $4.06, and on motion the Treasurer was ordered to pay $5.00.

The church met on October 11, 1890, and after sermon by Rev. D. N. Conley proceeded to business. The pastor being absent, brother Conley was elected Moderator. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Report of committees were called for. Messengers to the association reported J. V. Bartlett & Jeff Springston. Treasurer reported $2.50 on Pastor's salary, and Sexton reported $1.12 paid on house cleaning. On motion the church adjourned to meet on Saturday before the second Sunday in November.

The church met Sat. Nov. 8, 1890, and after sermon by the Pastor proceeded to business. On motion C. F. West was elected Clerk protem. Report of committees called for. No report. On motion the resignation of the pastor was accepted, but on condition said resignation not be made formal until we hear from him again. On motion a committee of three was appointed to purchase carpets and lamps for the church. Brethern J. V. Bartlett, C. C. Riddel and C. F. West were appointed by the Mod. Sexton reported $1.12. On motion the church adjourned.

The church met Sat. Dec. 13, 1890, and being without a Pastor opened meting by reading, singing and prayer. On motion, Bro. C. Tyson was elected Mod. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. On motion, bro. S. P. Beckner and wife were granted letters of dismission and recommendation to a sister church of like faith and order.
Treasurer reported $33.90 paid to Pastor, and $10.50 for incidental expenses.
Sexton reported 15 cts + 1.12 = $1.27.
On motion the church adjourned to meet on Sat. before the second Sunday in January.
