167 Will of John Riddle of Roane County,West Virginia

John Riddle's Last Will and Testament
I,John Riddle of the County of Roane in the State of Virginia; being of sound mind and disposing memory do make this my last Will and Testament.

First,I give unto my beloved wife all my perishable property of every description to do with as she may choose after the payment of all my just debts.

To Wit: The doctor's bill one trip from Spencer,Roane Court House and 85 cents to Smith & Williams.

Second: I give unto my son James Riddle all my land with its appertinances upon this condition, that he maintain myself and my wife during our natural lives in decent manner sitable for persons of advanced age and at the age of either of both to bury us according to the custom of the neighborhood.

Third: I do hereby appoint my wife my sole Executrix,and desire that the Court shall not require of her to give security as is usual because the whole property of a perishable nature is given her above.

Given under my hand and seal this 2nd-day of March,A.D.1858.

The last Will and Testament of John Riddle,deceased was this day produced and proved by J.P. Thomasson and Rebecca Ridle,two subscibing witnesses thereto which is ordered to be recorded and on motion of Hannah Riddle,Executrix appointed in the said Will and who is not
to be required to enter into bond with security and who took the oath prescribed by law certificate is granted her forobtaining a Probate of said Will in due form of Law.

William Henry COBB married Barbara Ellen STARCHER on August 17, 1852, in Glenville (Gilmer County), Virginia (New West Virginia). Her parents were Daniel Starcher and Nancy (?). The wedding took place at the home of her father. The Rev. Rufus Notts performed the ceremony.
This information was taken from Pension Records, Department of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions, Certificate Number 304942. These records are on file in the Military Records Section of the National Archives Building, Washington, DC and were transcribed by Charles Richard "Dick" COBB, their Great-Great Grandson.
William Henry Cobb served in the Union Army in the Civil War. He served with Company "A", 13th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry (Civil War Pension Files: 1861-1934; T- 288; Roll 88).

William Mullens/age 24/residence/Newton/Born Roane County W.Va. Minnie O'Dell/age 18/residence/Pigion/Born Roane County,W.Va. INformation given by L. M. O'Dell. Minister Thomas Parris Date Dec. 20th 1906. I made a mistake on the initial L and also the date I gave was when the information was given on the 18th. I had the L as an F. My Dads birth certificate has his mother's name as Marie L. O'Dell and his dad as William M. Mullens. I knew my grandmother as Minnie not Marie. My dad knows her as Minnie too. Dads name is Oan Ernest, he's called Onie.
